In the MAGDA project, GeoGuard’s advanced GNSS-based monitoring system is being leveraged for environmental applications, focusing on the continuous monitoring of atmospheric water vapor and soil moisture, rather than traditional displacement monitoring.
GeoGuard’s architecture includes cost-effective GNSS units and a cloud-based platform for real-time data analysis. GNSS reflectometry is used to retrieve soil moisture by analyzing reflected satellite signals, while tropospheric water vapor content is extracted from the same GNSS data. This novel use of GeoGuard enables precision monitoring for sustainable agriculture practices within MAGDA.
BREVA software, hosted on GeoGuard’s cloud platform, processes these measurements, providing environmental real-time data useful for optimizing agricultural interventions, and contributing, together with the other sensors and numerical models integrated in MAGDA, to more efficient water management, pests control and irrigation strategies.
